<h1>INTERNAL WHIZARD INFORMATION</h1>
<h2><b>1) PAST WHIZARD WORKSHOPS AND MEETINGS </b></h2 >
<UL>
<h3> 2017 </h3>
<li>
WHIZARD meeting, 9.-11.1.2017, Siegen;
<b style="color:#FF0000"> AGENDA: </b>
<h3> 2016 </h3>
<li>
WHIZARD meeting, 20.-21.9.2016, W&uuml;rzburg, Attendants:
Brass,Chokoufe,Fleper,Kilian,Ohl,Reuter,Speckner,Weiss,Zhao;
Restructuring configure setups: only one configure, no more subpackage,
shell script projector to generate subpackages; major work plan change:
move from HepForge svn to gitlab at Siegen, move git branches from DESY stash
and from W&uuml;rzburg git to Siegen repo, protected master branch with merge requests
only, svn commit automatically from git master, testing by gitlab tools using docker to
prepare compiler installations; establish Slack as work chat and for short-term issues;
user code routines/interfaces to be discussed at LC Generator Group meeting in 12/2016;
status of MPI: new VAMP(2) implementation will come as alternative integrator, probably
directly as sub-module of WHIZARD, most of TO's code rewritten by SB, final tests
still pending; NLO refactoring close to finalized, will be merged as soon as possible,
will trigger new release to be 2.4.0, scheduled for 28.11.2016; WK promised to take
over recent bugs (phase space problem, NAG error messages etc.); work distribution
for NLO: top threshold highest priority (incl. factorized NLO decays), ZZ taking over
hadron collider NLO, CF will start with automation of EW NLO; Status of UFO support:
TO gives schedule for mid-October to have SM from UFO working in full WHIZARD, incl.
WHIZARD phase space and model parameter files, further testing can be done also by other
WHIZARDs; separate discussion on TO's restrictions on propagators and vertices
(TO/CF/MS); more intense discussions of shower and matching postponed; validation
of ILC cross sections: ZZ will rerun numbers from Sherpa/Helac paper, then run
Sherpa and MG5 for further comparison, afterwards start with LHC processes
</li>
<li>
WHIZARD meeting, 7.-9.6.2016, DESY, Attendants:
Brass,Chokoufe,Kilian,Ohl,Reuter,Shim,Weiss,Zhao. status of NLO: missing pieces, next steps,
technical details of refactoring to allow for several subtraction schemes (like CS vs. FKS).
Importance of seed kinematics: born vs. real (n vs. n+1), schedule for NLO refactoring (regarding
release plans) and work distribution (WK+CW); discussion on the shower performance, interpolating grids
for Sudakov evaluation, technical details of our Sudakov integral, Preparation for possible EW corrections:
research plan for PhD of CFleper; plans for other OLPs like NJet and RECOLA; discussion on DESY summer student
projects; work on matching will be continued after top continuum and threshold
projects are finished; preparations for MC4BSM and new tutorial: use of Docker, at certain point revival
of GUI, Plans on help functions and automatic SINDARIN reference. Status of UFO parser, prospects for
validation and schedule for inclusion in official release: most likely for a 2.4.0 and not in 2.3.0.
Discussion of LC Generator Group issues: list of possible causes for discrepancy in hadronic particle counts
between 1.95_LC_GenG and 2.3.0_alpha_inoff. Beam spectra, open points on correlated tau decays.
Report from SBrass on status of VA-MPI-RE and MPI parallelization plans for WHIZARD. Discussion on
parallelization and merging of integration grids. Open points for merging with trunk (understanding
of errors). Meeting followed by CWeiss+ZZhao closed session on NLO at hadron colliders.
</li>
<li>
WHIZARD meeting, 17.-18.2.2016, Siegen, Attendants:
Brass,Chokoufe,Fleper,Kilian,Ohl,Reuter,Sekulla,Weiss,Zhao: authentication to Jenkins via
public keys, clean-up of Jenkins tasks; tau decays: inclusion of Tauola (quasi-final Fortran
version of the code) to allow the LC generator group to do backwards validation; Bloch spheres for
spin representations, JRR finds write-up and sends it around; wrap-up of NLO status: missing pieces
are hadron collider singular regions and validation, resonance histories for subtraction terms,
priority for finalization of top threshold and tth NLO QCD papers; electroweak scheme support by
WK; Zhao: 2->6, 2->8 validation, participation in NLO validation and development; new class of restrictions for O'Mega
amplitudes for excluding certain vertices or propagators; stressing of the importance of UFO support
and generalized Lorentz structures, plan to be ready for MC4BSM 2016 mid July 2016; plans for
conference coverage; preparation of summer student projects; discussion on parallelization: priority
for the MPI inside VAMP; welcome to new team members Zhao and Fleper. 3rd International WHIZARD forum
planned for spring 2018, possibly in castle around Siegen or mid-Rhine valley.

<h1>INTERNAL WHIZARD INFORMATION</h1>
<h2><b> 5) Preparation of a new release version </b> </h2>
<p>
To build and release a new version follow these steps:
</p>
<ol>
<li> Make sure all changes are in the svn trunk. Close the svn trunk by an email announcement to the full WHIZARD group. </li>
<li> Update the metadata in the trunk:
<ol type="a">
<li> Check the version number in <i>src/noweb-frame/whizard-prelude.nw</i> and
<i>configure.ac.in</i>, <i>share/doc/manual.tex</i>, <i>omega/src/targets.ml</i>, <i> INSTALL </i>,
<i> NEWS </i>, as well as in <i>circe2/src/circe2.nw</i>, and update it when necessary </li>
<li> Release date: 2 places in <i>
src/noweb-frame/whizard-prelude.nw</i>
and in <i>configure.ac.in </i> </li>
<li> Update the version in <i> share/doc/custom.hva</i> and
<i> share/doc/manual.tex </i>
<li> Year or email address change? modify and apply <i> synchronize.sh </i>
<li> Update <i> ChangeLog </i>: summarize the more important changes according
to their dates. Add the version release line with date on top. </li>
<li> Check whether the files <i>AUTHORS</i>, <i>BUGS</i>, <i> INSTALL </i>,
<i> README </i>, <i> TODO </i> need any updates and do them </li>
<li> Do <i> svn commit </i> </li>
</ol> </li>
<li> Build the distributions (you need HeVeA and Hacha to build the HTML documentation!)
for the main WHIZARD, O'Mega, VAMP, CIRCE1, and CIRCE2
(separate svn folders, configure with the flag <i> --enable-distribution</i>, do
<i> make </i>, <i> make check</i> , <i> make dist</i>, <i> make distcheck </i>
as well as <i> make extra-distcheck </i>) </li>
<li>
Optionally: run the examples. </li>
<li> If everyhting is ok, these are the release master versions. Copy them to the HepForge server
into <i> /hepforge/home/whizard/public_html </i> </li>
<li> In <i> /hepforge/home/whizard/downloads </i> set the links for the new versions
for the five tarballs to the files in <i> /hepforge/home/whizard/public_html </i>
and reset the links of the five tarballs of the previous version to
<i> /hepforge/home/whizard/public_html/oldsrc </i> </li>
<li>
Update files on the HepForge page in <i>/hepforge/home/whizard/public_html</i>:
<ol type="a">
<li> Update the links to the new version in <i>index.html</i> (6 places) </li>
<li> Update the version numbers in <i>index.html</i> (2 places) </li>
<li> Update the release date of the new version in <i>index.html</i> (3 places) </li>
<li> Copy the new files <i> manual.pdf </i>, <i> whizard.pdf </i>, <i>omega.pdf</i>,
<i>vamp.pdf</i>, <i>circe1.pdf</i>, and <i> circe2.pdf</i> here </li>
<li> Update the <i> index.html </i> and <i>manualXXX.html</i> in the <i>manual</i>
subdirectory </li>
<li> Copy the new <i> ChangeLog </i> into the file <i> CHANGES </i> </li>
<li> Check whether <i> compilers.html </i> needs to be updated. </li>
<li> Summarize the changes in a new entry in <i> news.html </i> </li>
<li> Do <i>svn commit</i> here and remove the commit message <i> svn-commit.tmp~</i>
afterwards. </li>
</ol> </li>
<li> Tag the new release version in the <i> branches/tags</i> branch </li>
<li> Update the Trac entries with <i> trac-admin /hepforge/projconf/whizard/trac</i>:
<ol type="a">
<li> Complete the current milestone by <i> milestone completed &lt;name&gt; now </i> </li>
<li> Optionally set a new milestone date or add a new milestone </li>
<li> Add a new version by <i> version add &lt;name&gt; now </i> </li>
<li> Update the file: <i> /hepforge/projconf/whizard/trac/conf/trac.ini</i>:
new <i> default_milestone </i> and <i> default_version</i> </li>
</ol> </li>
<li> Update metadata for the next release: repeat points 2a, 2b, 2c, 2e, 2f, 2g
accordingly
<li> If there are any major changes, adjust this list and redo 7i! </li>
<li> Relax and enjoy a single malt!</li>
</ol>
